Compaction test shall furnish the following basic data for soils:

• The relationship between dry density and moisture content for a given degree of compactive effort.
• The moisture content for the most effective compaction – that is, at which the maximum dry density is achieved under that compactive effort.
• The achieving value of the maximum dry density (MDD) and optimum moisture content (OMC).

Purposes of Soil Compaction by Machinery:

• Compaction is the application of energy to soil to reduce the void ratio. This is usually required for fill materials, and is sometimes used for natural soils.
• Compaction reduces settlements under working loads.
• Compaction increases the strength of soil material.
• Compaction makes water flow through soil more difficult.
• Compaction can prevent liquefaction during earthquakes.

The standard outfit comprises of a fixed ring type of consolidometer cell for testing specimens of 60mm. Diameter x 20mm. thick. Suitable for varying sizes from 50mm. dia. to 100mm dia. specimens. Id The standard outfit is supplied with a set of weights to give a \s, total pressure of 10kg/cm2(besides a seating load of 0.05 kg/cm2)on the specimen, but an additional set of weights are required to reach the full capacity of 20 kg/cm2 which will be supplied at extra cost.

Flexure Testing Machine is designed in such a way that it provides maximum rigidity throughout their working capacity. The load is applied by upward movement of loading jack(hydraulic ram). The Techno Flexure Testing Machine are provided with self aligning action of the upper plate and between this plate and loading jack the flexure attachment is fixed. The load is indicated on the Bourden tube type Pressure Gauge capacity 100KN duly calibrated by Regional Testing Centre, New Delhi. Compaction Factor is the ratio of the weight of partially compacted concrete to the weight of the concrete when fully compacted in the same mould. The weight of partially compacted concrete in relation to its fully compacted state is a reasonably good indication of the workability of concrete.
